Take the Right Classes
What are AP classes?
By taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school and passing the AP exams, you can get a jump-start on college. Advanced Placement classes are offered at most high schools and each school decides which AP subjects they will offer. Many other subjects are being considered for the future.
AP classes teach college level material at the high school level. Students should expect classes to be significantly more difficult with an increased workload. Depending upon the subject, you may read and write more, analyze material, synthesize ideas, or solve more in-depth problems. Talk to your counselor to learn more about AP classes at your school and if they are a good match for you.
What is the IB Program?
The International Baccalaureate Organization’s Diploma Program is a demanding pre-university course of study for highly motivated secondary school students. Besides having high academic standards, a strong emphasis is placed on international understanding and responsible citizenship so that IB students may become critical and compassionate thinkers, lifelong learners and informed participants in local and world affairs. Talk to your counselor to find out if your school has an IB program or visit the IBO homepage at www.ibo.org
